Location

Stalden (Stalden VS / Stalden - Saas) is a village with a population of 1100 in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It is situated between the highest mountains of the Swiss Alps at an altitude of 800m.

7km from Visp, it is on the entry of the Saas- and Mattervalley. Saas-Fee, Grächen and Zermatt with the famous Matterhorn can easily be reached. From Stalden you can discover the entire Valais, with the good railway connections even most parts of Switzerland.


By car, you reach Stalden by using the Lötschberg or Furkatunnel, where you use the (paid) train transport service. From Geneva / Lausanne you use the highway A9.  Arrived in Visp you drive forward in direction of Zermatt or Saas-Fee. From Italy, you cross the Simplon Pass. (open whole year)

In the Summer, you can also use the scenic pass roads of Grimsel, Furka or Nufenen. 


By train, Stalden is only 1 hour from Bern, 2 hours from Zürich with the new Lötschberg - basetunnel. There are direct trains from Zürich, Basel, Bern and Geneva to Visp, 1 -2 times every hour. 

Changing the train in Visp, you take the regional train of the MGB company in direction to Zermatt or the postbus in direction to Saas-Fee. Get out at Stalden-Saas. (railway station) The trip from Visp takes 10 min.

Since a short time, Stalden has also a landingplace for helicopters.


Climate / ideal travel time

Stalden has a mild and dry climate. It is one of the lowest-precipitation regions in Switzerland. 

It can be visited all year round.
